If you're in the market for a sedan fit for commuting, the Toyota Corolla has probably come up on your radar. It's got a great reputation, a lot of features, and plenty of style for a vehicle of this price point.

Another model that gets attention in this segment is the Nissan Sentra. Today we'll compare the 2018 Toyota Corolla to the 2018 Nissan Sentra and prove why ours is the better pick!

Performance

No one is expecting a commuting sedan to pack a ton of power, but you still want to feel like you have enough in the city or on the highway when you're in the fast lane. Most Corolla's have a 1.8L engine with 132 horsepower, though the Eco trim's 1.8L has 140 horsepower and slightly better fuel ratings.

The Sentra has a CVT engine with only 124 horsepower, though the manual option does get 132 horsepower. There is a 1.6L turbocharged option with has 188 horsepower. On paper that's quite a lot, but if you check out reviews, a lot of automotive journalists say it's pretty lackluster and not really worth the extra cost.

Safety

Except for on the manual, all Sentra's come standard with automatic emergency braking. However, the Corolla's come standard with way more advanced safety features, thanks to the Toyota Safety Sense Package. You'll get lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, pre-collision alert with pedestrian detection, and dynamic radar cruise control.

Price

When you compare the automatic options, the base model Corolla has a slightly higher manufacturer's suggested starting price, but only by about $500. However, if you want a top-trim option, the Sentra's starting price is $25,790 compared to the Corolla's $22,800 manufacturer's suggested price tag!
